As its coming up to the festive season we both thought it would be a great idea to post about our trip to Paris last New Years Eve (2015). We have been to Paris a few times now and it really is a wonderful city full of adventure, fashion, great food and architecture.
While any time of the year is great to experience the city, I really enjoyed the trip there last Winter as even in the rain Paris is still very beautiful and magical.
We went for three days and while Paris is expensive, the hotel we stayed in, La Villa Maillot, was very reasonably priced as we booked quite a bit in advance. The hotel is a cosy, boutique hotel located in the 16th arrondissement, a short walk from the Arc de Triomph. The room was nicely decorated and quite spacious for European standards.
As we were in Paris before we did not do a lot of sight seeing on this trip but either myself or Bryan will cover all of that in another more detailed post about Paris.
On this trip, we decided to relax a bit more and wander around the city. We of course saw the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomph as well as the Champs Elysees. The Champs Elysees looked amazing at that time of year as the trees had Christmas lights all down the avenue which was truly magical. We also headed into Laduree on the Champs Elysees which is an experience in itself. We didn’t get a chance to try the food in the restaurant (due to very long queues outside) but we did have drinks at the very trendy bar at the back which was a great experience and of course don’t forget the macaroons!
We also took a stroll down to Place Vendome. This was my favourite place for pictures as they have beautiful yet simple Christmas trees around the square as well as the biggest Christmas Market we have ever seen near by at Jardin de Tuileries.
For shopping we headed to Galeries Lafayette, as I had never been before and I really wanted to see the giant Christmas Tree. (I have an obsession with Christmas Trees) The department store is huge and you could literally spend hours there looking at all the amazing brands. We also headed to Avenue Montaigne which is perfect for Luxury Shopping and also people spotting!
On New Years Eve itself there was a huge celebration by the Arc de Triumph and while there were no fireworks like previous years they did put on a spectacular light show, it was a really great atmosphere.
Weatherwise, it was cold and it did rain on our last day there but honestly when we are in Paris we don’t mind the rain at all as it is still a wonderful place with any kind of weather.
Paris is great for a stroll around and its nice to relax in the many cafes dotted around this very scenic city.
We would definitely return again this time of year and would highly recommend it for a short winter break.
